About Lauren
I fell in love with coding during a Python elective I took in college and have never looked back. I hold certifications in Python Programming (Coursera — University of Michigan, 2021), Front-End Web Development — HTML, CSS and JavaScript (freeCodeCamp, 2021), and Introduction to Machine Learning with Python (edX, 2023). I completed a college elective in introductory Java and data structures as part of my science education program. Over 4 years of programming tutoring, I have worked with over 30 students from age 8 through college first year. In 2023, a 13-year-old student I had been teaching for two months built a fully working trivia game in Python entirely on her own — that kind of independent moment is exactly what I work toward with every student. I am patient, clear, and genuinely excited about tech education. Every student I have ever worked with has left their first session with working code — and that is something I am really proud of.

I teach coding the way I wish someone had taught it to me — by building real things right from the start. Not toy exercises that feel pointless, but actual working programs and projects you are proud of. In my experience, nothing keeps a student motivated like opening their browser and seeing something they just built actually running. My lessons are project-based and completely screen-shared live so I can see your code in real time, catch issues as they happen, and explain the why behind every fix — not just the what. For younger K–8 students I start with Scratch — a visual, block-based coding environment that makes programming feel like play and teaches all the core concepts without any scary syntax. From there we move to Python, which is the friendliest text-based language to learn and opens doors into data, web development, automation, and AI. For web development, I teach HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — we build pages that actually look good and do interesting things. For AP Computer Science students and college-track learners, I teach Java covering syntax, arrays, classes, loops, inheritance, and algorithm basics. I also teach C++ for students in advanced pathways, SQL for database querying and data work, and beginner AI — covering what machine learning actually is, how models are trained, and how to use beginner Python tools to experiment with real data. No prior experience needed. No background in tech needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to try — I will handle the rest. By the end of our first session, you will already have written and run your first real piece of code. That feeling is something special, and I love being there for it with every student.
