About Richard
I’ve been teaching for 30 years, mainly at universities (Columbia, Georgetown, and Catholic University of America), but also for all ages from kindergartners to retirees. I have always maintained the highest levels of professionalism and integrity. I also continually dedicate myself to new ways to learn and teach. I focus on the students and have many ways to explain the same thing to match each person's learning style.

I work well with students who really want to learn, from beginning to advanced. Students choose their songs and I teach them how to learn the joy of the journey and fulfill on their deepest dreams. Students will learn to use their ears to learn and how to read music. My specialty is Brazilian Jazz, balancing classical technique with jazz improvisation. I have taught every style and love to discover the new music my students bring in. Together we break learning up into fun and manageable steps, until the student has learned how to learn and no longer needs me.
