I communicate with my students before the first session, to find out what their concerns are, the academic level they are at and their preffered learning style because I understand that individuals are unique,hence, sometimes lessons must be tailored to meet learning goals. e.g when doing speed reading, I let the student read uninterrupted for a minute while noting down which words they mispronounced and correct them after then repeat the excersise to see if they read the whole passage well after.
