About Caleb
Kia ora, I'm a qualified primary teacher with a Bachelor of Education from AUT and more than six years in the classroom teaching Years 4 to 8. Alongside my classroom work, I tutor regularly one-on-one.
My focus areas are literacy and math. I love helping students build strong reading and writing skills that carry across every subject, and I work to make math something they feel capable at rather than anxious about. Fifteen years of musical theater experience also means I can support students with drama and oral presentations, which is often where confidence grows fastest.
Every student learns differently, so I take the time to find out where each one is at before we begin, and I keep in touch with parents and caregivers so our sessions support what's happening at school. Lessons run for an hour and follow a clear, consistent structure, whether we're rebuilding confidence after a rough patch or extending a student who's ready for more.

I start by finding out exactly where a student is at, through informal testing or by checking in with parents about what the class is covering. Each hour-long lesson follows the same shape: warm-up or recap, teaching the fundamentals and strategies, then practice. I adapt to how each child learns — chunking work into manageable sections, slowing down and rebuilding confidence where it's been knocked, or extending students who are capable but coasting. Lessons are for Years 4–8.
