About Cadence
"I have 6 years of experience teaching piano and helping students develop confidence through creative and thoughtful musicianship. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Musicology with a focus on Piano History, which has given me a deeper understanding of piano styles and musical development. My teaching combines historical knowledge with practical jazz performance skills.
I specialize in jazz piano improvisation, comping techniques, and building a sophisticated harmonic vocabulary. I believe in a complete approach that includes jazz theory, ear training for complex chords, transcription, and rhythmic precision. These skills help students understand the language of jazz and express themselves more freely.
I have worked with students from Early Intermediate to Advanced Intermediate levels, as well as Professional and Expert jazz musicians who want to refine their skills. One student improved their improvisation by studying short jazz phrases and applying them in real performances. I enjoy creating lessons that challenge students while keeping the learning process enjoyable.
Every musician has their own creative voice, and I believe the piano is a powerful way to discover it. My goal is to help students build confidence, musical understanding, and the ability to express ideas spontaneously. "My teaching approach focuses on helping students use the piano as a tool for creativity and personal expression. Lessons include songwriting for piano, composing melodies, building harmonies, creating intros and outros, and developing strong musical themes. I help students understand how ideas can grow into complete pieces of music.
I combine creativity with structure so students can write music that feels natural and well organized. For example, we may start with a simple melody and explore different chords, rhythms, and arrangements until it becomes a full song idea. This process helps students gain confidence in making their own musical choices.
I also teach ways to develop musical ideas through improvisation, listening exercises, and practical composition tasks. Students learn how to create original work while understanding the balance between emotion and technique. Each lesson is adjusted to support personal goals, whether writing for enjoyment or building a stronger creative portfolio.
I support students who want to explore both personal expression and advanced jazz creativity through the piano. My goal is to help you develop your own musical voice, create meaningful compositions, and turn your ideas into finished pieces. With the right guidance and practice, you can build a collection of music that reflects your unique journey and compose your musical legacy."
