About Tara
My name is Tara, I am a 26 year old with a love of all things creative. I live in North Canterbury where I have great access to mountains, rivers, forests and oceans. I also have access to the funky city that is Ōtautahi Christchurch where I play cello and sing in two bands. I love to write in lots of different forms and I am currently learning how to write songs. I am a Pākehā of Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English descent. I have a deep love of languages and culture and lots of plans to travel.

I come to teaching with a deep reverence and joy of words.
I have previously tutored students ages 5-18, I am able to and enjoy teaching at all levels! During my time tutoring I noticed many children “behind” in their English studies because they were English language learners. It was difficult to see the impact on their confidence without being specifically trained to help them. Recognizing this issue, I recently gained my CELTA qualification so I am able to provide English Second Language Learners with the support that they need, as well as supporting students through their academic English assessments and exams.
I believe education is what you make of it, I could be the best teacher in the world but if the students don’t care about what they are learning then it won’t be remembered. My priority is getting to know students so I can understand learning styles and motivations. Sessions are then tailored to meeting set goals whilst still maintaining engagement. I want my students to understand why what they are learning is important.
I have a Masters in Writing, specializing in creative writing. Bachelor of Arts in English and Anthropology and a Bachelor of Music. My recent CELTA achievement, bolsters my appreciation and understanding of the English language as well as my skills as a tutor.
My goals are to build strong relationships with students, make learning fun and engaging and to share my own passion for English!
