About Steve
My journey into cinema truly began during my time in film school at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where a unique mentorship with my dean replaced standard lectures with focused, one-on-one dissections of classic cinema. That transformative experience shaped my approach to both creating art and teaching it: true mentorship isn't about teaching you a standard formula; it is about helping you uncover your own singular, unique perspective.
My Teaching Philosophy & Approach:
I treat filmmaking as a holistic craft. Whether you want to write a compelling screenplay, command a set as a director, or figure out how to finance an independent movie without Hollywood backing, my goal is to strip away the gatekeeping and give you actionable, real-world tools. In our sessions, there is "no problem and no judgement." We will focus heavily on communication, practical execution, and finding your distinct artistic voice.
I work with students at all levels—from beginners picking up a camera for the first time to intermediate filmmakers preparing for their first feature or looking to refine their visual style.
