I am an Associate Professor of Music at Valparaiso University. I teach violin, music theory I and II and musicology (research) for undergraduates.

I'm in Junior High and currently in Chamber on the school team, selected after a competitive audition. I've taken several classes from Katharina and she's just amazing. She helped me on the technique, posture and her attention to detail helped me grow. She makes the class enjoyable and not as a chore. Her love for music and perfection on the technique comes through. She doesn't hesitate to correct me and so really helped me to grow as a violinist. I look forward to many more lessons.

Katharina instructed me at university, and her expertise always showed through in the detailed and personalized tutoring she provided. She is able to encourage and excite her students about their art, while also giving constructive critiques and expectations. Katharina Uhde provided me with some of the best violin instruction I have ever received during all my years of musical study.

Dr. Uhde is an incredible musician, teacher, and - most importantly- life mentor. Throughout the past year, Dr. Uhde greeted me for each lesson with the biggest smile, and she suggested changes for my viola technique that helped me relax and play more confidently. Whether encouraging me through a difficult piece or pushing me to start new improv and jazz projects, she has been an amazing teacher and friend.

Katharina has been my teacher for 3 years and without her, I would have not gotten to the level I am currently at. She is an expert in many technical and emotional areas of playing, especially intonation, bow techniques, and precision! By incorporating so many in-depth techniques and ideas that many others do not think about, she works with students to reach their highest potential by building a strong foundation.
She is very personable and relatable as she easily creates a very focused, fun, and challenging environment. She is a world class musicologist, professor, violinist and person, anyone would be lucky to be a student under her expertise!
