About Jason
I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember—more than 30 years at this point—and art has always been a major part of my life. What started with a pencil and a love of drawing eventually grew into experience with illustration, painting, digital art, graphic design, and, more recently, professional tattooing.
Today, I work as a tattoo artist, where drawing and design are part of my everyday life. Tattooing has pushed me to become an even more thoughtful artist, especially when it comes to composition, linework, shading, contrast, color, and turning an idea into a finished piece of artwork.
My background is a little different from that of a traditional art teacher. Alongside my work as an artist, I’ve spent years professionally designing educational experiences as an instructional and learning experience designer. That combination has taught me not only how to create, but how to break down a complicated skill and explain it in a way that makes sense to someone learning it for the first time.
I also know firsthand that becoming a better artist isn’t about being born with some special talent. It comes from curiosity, practice, experimentation, and learning how to really see what you’re trying to create. My goal as a tutor is to create an encouraging environment where students can develop their technical skills without losing the creativity and personality that make their artwork their own.
Whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time, returning to art after years away, or already creating and looking to improve, I’m happy to meet you where you are and help you take the next step.

I believe learning art should be creative, approachable, and tailored to the individual. With more than 30 years of experience drawing and creating art, I’ve learned that there isn’t one “right” way to become an artist. My goal is to help each student develop strong foundational skills while also discovering their own style and creative voice.
My lessons are hands-on and project-based. Rather than spending an entire session listening to explanations, we’ll draw, paint, experiment, and work through techniques together. Depending on your interests and experience level, we can explore drawing fundamentals, sketching, linework, shading, perspective, composition, color, painting techniques, illustration, character or object design, and developing ideas from rough concepts into finished artwork.
A typical lesson starts with a short demonstration or exercise focused on a particular skill. From there, we’ll apply that skill to an actual piece of artwork. I provide guidance and constructive feedback throughout the process, explain not only how to do something but why it works, and adjust the lesson based on what you’re finding easy or challenging.
What sets my approach apart is my background in both art and education. In addition to being a lifelong artist, I have professional experience in instructional and learning experience design. I understand how to break complicated skills into manageable steps and adapt instruction to different ways of learning. I want students to understand what they’re doing rather than simply copying what they see me do.
Lessons are great for beginners, hobbyists, teens and adults returning to art, or developing artists who want to strengthen specific skills. You don’t need an art degree, an expensive setup, or years of experience—just an interest in creating and a willingness to practice.
Whether you want to improve your drawing skills, learn to paint, explore illustration, or simply become more confident and creative with your artwork, we can build lessons around the kind of artist you want to become.
