About Jaida
Hello! I'm a 3D Animation and VFX student at the School of Visual Arts, currently in my third year. I have been selling my artwork for around five years at this point, showing at conventions such as New York Comic Con. I'm also in the early stages of a tattoo apprenticeship. You could say that I'm a bit all over the place!
But I love being able to express myself through all kinds of mediums and as such, I am able to do so digitally and traditionally. My main mediums are: graphite and charcoal drawing, watercolor and oil painting, inking, sculpture, and digital drawing and video.
My past experience teaching was actually in taekwondo (believe it or not). I worked with students from ages 3 to 18 teaching them all the skills I had accumulated over 10 years of international competition experience. Now, I have turned my focus to my true passion: Art. I have been doing art my whole life, and have shown in various galleries, sold work (to real people!), and created things that made an impact on others and, especially, myself.

My drawing and illustration lessons are for anyone who wants to make something cool!
And by "cool", I mean:
- able to convey ideas that the student has without hindering creativity (I want to know your vision! My job is to help you realize that vision)
- aware of technical rules and whether or not students choose to follow or break them
- intellectually stimulating (subject matter, symbolism, commentary on our world, etc.) through background knowledge of prominent artists throughout history (but this isn't a history course so don't worry about it being the focus of the lessons!)
In my approach, I believe that a concept comes above all technicality! Lessons will typically start with students brainstorming ideas and thumbnailing them so that we can get a feel for what kind of piece we are going to create together. Then we will plan what medium the project will be and materials that are needed for the execution of it. Demonstrations will be made for any questions that the student has for execution (for example, how to make gradients or how to control line weight, anything really!). Then, I will step back and only provide guidance during the actual creation of the piece. I will provide critiques at various milestones or if the student asks for it (never forget, I'm here to help at all points of the project!). And finally, when the project is complete, we will talk about what happens to the project afterwards: Is this going to be hung up in your house? Do you want to exhibit your work somewhere? Do you want to get it published? Do you want to sell the piece?
From beginner to advanced, my lessons are geared to make art accessible and approachable to everyone!
