About Robbie
I hold a Master of English Degree, a certificate in Multi and Transnational Literature and a certificate in Technical Communication. In addition, I have more than 20 years of experience teaching English at both the middle school and college levels. I bring depth of knowledge, proven instructional, and unwavering professionalism to every student I work with. Over the course of my career, I have helped students strengthen foundational grammar and reading skills, master analytical writing, and successfully complete advanced research assignments. My experience across grade levels allows me to understand not only where students are academically, but where they need to go next.
I approach tutoring with structure, clarity, and purpose. I set high expectations while providing steady guidance, detailed feedback, and practical strategies that lead to measurable improvement. With 10 years teaching 8th grade English and 11 years as a college English instructor, my approach as a tutor is structured, intentional, and student-centered. I begin with a brief assessment to identify strengths and areas for growth. From there, I design targeted lessons that build skills systematically—strengthening grammar, refining writing structure, deepening literary analysis, and sharpening critical thinking. I model strategies clearly, provide guided practice, and gradually release responsibility so students gain independence and confidence.
A typical lesson includes a focused mini-lesson on a specific skill, guided application using the student's current coursework, immediate feedback, and a short independent practice task. When working on essays, I break writing into manageable steps: planning, thesis development, organization, evidence integration, revision, and editing. I emphasize clarity, structure, and academic voice at every level.
What sets me apart is my dual experience in both secondary and collegiate classrooms. I understand the expectations students face now—and what will be required of them next. I prepare middle and high school students for advanced coursework, and I help college students meet rigorous academic standards with professionalism and precision.
