About Yijia
I am a PhD researcher in architecture and urban environmental design with over five years of teaching experience in art, design, and creative portfolio development. My academic background allows me to bring a structured, research-led approach to teaching, while my classroom and one-to-one tutoring experience helps me adapt lessons to each student’s personality, goals, and learning pace.
I have supported students in developing stronger sketchbooks, clearer visual research, more confident creative ideas, and well-presented portfolios for art, design, and architecture-related pathways. I understand that creative subjects can sometimes feel uncertain or overwhelming, so I aim to make lessons calm, encouraging, and practical.
My teaching style is professional but approachable. I give honest, constructive feedback, explain ideas clearly, and help students build both technical skills and creative confidence. Whether a student is preparing for A-Level Art, IGCSE/GCSE Art, or a university portfolio, I focus on helping them understand their own strengths and develop work that feels thoughtful, personal, and well-resolved.

My approach as a tutor is supportive, structured, and highly individual. I help students understand not only how to make visually strong work, but also how to develop ideas, research artists, record their creative process, and present their thinking clearly. My teaching combines practical demonstrations, visual analysis, guided discussion, and step-by-step feedback.
A typical lesson begins with a short review of the student’s current work, sketchbook, or portfolio. We then identify the main goal for the session, such as improving composition, developing a concept, researching relevant artists, planning experiments, or refining a final outcome. I provide visual references, explain techniques, demonstrate possible directions, and give clear tasks for the student to complete after the lesson.
What sets me apart is my background as a PhD researcher in architecture and urban environmental design. I bring strong research skills, design thinking, spatial awareness, and academic structure into art teaching. I can help students connect creativity with critical thinking, especially for architecture, design, and art-related university applications.
My lessons are suitable for A-Level, IGCSE, GCSE, foundation, and pre-university students studying Art and Design, as well as students preparing portfolios for architecture, interior design, urban design, fine art, or other creative subjects.
