Treatment of groups as apposed to individuals may differ slightly but I almost always follow the same approach.
Before anything I feel it's important to establish an artist existing knowledge and skill level by presenting I fairly challenging task (i.e. a still life) and gauging by the result of each student how to proceed from there and whether or not they require raw foundational knowledge or whether they know enough to jump onto even more challenging tasks.
Then it's a matter creating tasks that introduce new concepts and techniques, through excercises, as the only way to truly improve at drawing is through practice and repetition.
One thing that I constantly inforced is obversation, I have an entire lessons dedicated to this.
When, specifically, dealing with groups the most important thing to teach is constructive critisism. Both towards their own work and the work of their piers, and early practice of this goes hand in hand with the practice of observation and aid them in be oming better creative thinkers.
Ultimately what is presented simply as a drawing class becomes something much closer to and art class, as it should because drawing is one of the pillars of visual arts.
