I am a Biology tutor with 7 years of experience and a BSc in Biology. My Biology teaching specifically addresses the requirements of International Baccalaureate Biology alongside A-Level, recognising that IB Biology has distinct assessment components — the Internal Assessment, the Theory of Knowledge link, and the Extended Essay — that require specific instructional attention alongside the content itself. IB Biology Internal Assessment preparation is a major component of my teaching for IB students, covering the full process of designing, executing, recording, processing, and evaluating an original biological investigation, with specific attention to the data processing and evaluation sections that most students find most challenging. Extended Essay support for Biology is provided for IB students choosing Biology as their essay subject, covering topic selection, research question formulation, source evaluation, data analysis, and the specific writing and referencing conventions of the IB Biology EE. I teach the IB Biology assessment criteria explicitly throughout, because IB assessment is criterion-based and students who understand the criteria can design their work to address them rather than hoping their natural abilities will satisfy requirements they have never examined. For A-Level students, practical endorsement skills are developed across all required practical activities because the practical component of A-Level Biology is a non-examined requirement that students must pass independently of their written examinations. Comparative study between IB and A-Level content is offered for students with exposure to both systems, clarifying the differences in emphasis and approach that the two qualifications represent. My teaching goal is a student who is fully prepared for every component of their specific Biology qualification.
