About Maria
Last year, my 11+ students received offers from Dulwich College, James Allen's Girls' School, Alleyn's, City of London Boys, Whitgift, Royal Russell, St Dunstan's, Haberdashers', St Olave's, and Sydenham. They received 15-40% academic scholarships.
All my GCSE students went up two levels, and one Science student went from level 4/5 to level 8/9 in five months.
In light of government guidelines, I am only taking bookings for online tutoring.
A quick guide to online tutoring:
1. The tuition is of the same high quality:
My approach to online tuition – including planning and delivery – does not differ from that of face-to-face tuition. I will always set the highest standard for your child, whatever the format of the session.
2. Online platforms are engaging:
Online tuition is interactive, and allows for efficient communication via a virtual notebook. With schools now incorporating more technology into their teaching, students are used to working online.
3. Organisational flexibility:
Tuition can happen at any time and in any place, at your convenience. With the current uncertainty surrounding travel bans, this will ensure that tuition can continue seamlessly.
4. Content can be revisited:
Many platforms now allow you to save session notes, and I provide an updated documents containing all lesson content.
I will return to in-person tutoring with limited spaces. Travel time is charged at half my hourly rate.

A little more about me: after completing my A-Levels at James Allen's Girls' School, I studied History at Pomona College in California. I specialise in tutoring Maths and English.
In my last nine years as a tutor, I have worked with students in the English and US educational systems, as well as homeschoolers. I specialise in preparing students for core GCSE, A-Level and SAT exams. I particularly enjoy working with students aiming for higher education who are trying to learn the study skills necessary to succeed in a demanding university environment.
As a tutor, what is most important to me is to find a way of teaching that the student understands. To accomplish this, I design lesson plans tailored to my student's strengths. By looking at each individual's study skills, I am able to understand why the student is having difficulty with certain concepts. This is particularly crucial when working with students who are in transition from one school to another. Together we work to find an approach that will help the student to fully understand material. These tools help my students to continue to excel as they go on in their studies.
You can expect a report within 48 hours of each session with details of your child's progress and tailored homework assignments.
For students seeking intensive exam preparation, I can design a bespoke curriculum lasting three to nine months. This is suitable for applicants to top schools at the 11+ level. It is especially useful for children in schools without adequate 11+ preparation, students who have taken time off due to illness, or older students preparing for GCSE or A-Level retakes.
I can provide DBS/CRB documentation on request.

I first met Maria 8 weeks before my GCSE exams. I struggled with Maths since primary school and there were many concepts I just didn’t know about. I also thought I was terrible at Maths and that there wouldn’t be enough time for me to catch up on everything before the exams started. Maria’s tutoring style is to be very understanding and patient. She knew how I learnt the best and used innovative methods to teach me complicated concepts. If I didn’t understand something, she would keep changing the way she explained until I understood. For the first time ever I started to understand algebra!
