About Willow
My name is Willow and I've loved music my whole life. Music is, in my opinion, the best storytelling medium. The melody, rhythm, and accompaniment all come together to tell all sorts of stories. And this is important because stories are how humans connect with each other.
I love the idea that I can help other people discover this storytelling medium with their voice- the most intimate instrument. Singing is moving and inspiring and, honestly, very cathartic.
Personally, it was pretty cool to go into my NCEA solo performance exam terrified out of my mind and come out feeling very free and relaxed after belting out Part of Your World and Don't Rain on My Parade for the examiners.

I would suggest a 30 minute lesson to start off with.
I believe that little and often is the key to success with music. You're learning a new language here, so you need to be consistent.
For music theory the plan of attack is: understanding the basics, cementing the basic understanding, and then doing consistent study on your own over the course of the year with support from your tutor.
For performance the plan is: pick an appropriate song (for NCEA I would choose an easy song you already know) and learn it in your own time, then come into a few lessons with me to straighten out any errors.
I have attended a lot of singing masterclasses and I know what NCEA music exams expect for achieved, merit, and excellence.
You don't need to have been singing since you were little to do well in an NCEA exam- or singing at all - I didn't start proper singing lessons until year 9.
