About Kallen
Welcome, everyone! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with you this session. My name is Kallen, and I will be your tutor for Math and Physics. As we embark on this educational journey together, I want to take a moment to share a bit about my background and what you can expect from our time in this course. I hold a Bachelor of Education in Math and Physics, MSc (Physics) and PhD (Physics) from Egerton University, Kenya. Over the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of teaching at various institutions, including Egerton University, Laikipia University, and Richland Northeast High School. My experience spans both academic and practical applications of our subject matter, allowing me to bring real-world insights into our discussions. In addition to my teaching experience, I have published several articles in reputable journals such as International Journal of Thermophysics, Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry and have presented at numerous conferences. This engagement with the academic community ensures that I stay current with the latest developments in my field, which I am eager to share with you. Learning being a collaborative process, my goal is not only to impart knowledge but also to foster an environment where you feel comfortable expressing your ideas and asking questions. Each of you brings unique perspectives and experiences that enrich our classroom discussions. Together, we will explore complex concepts and tackle challenging problems, all while supporting one another’s growth. To facilitate this collaborative atmosphere, I encourage open communication. Your success is my priority, and I am here to guide you through any challenges you may encounter. As your tutor, professionalism is paramount in our interactions. You can expect timely feedback on assignments and assessments as well as constructive criticism aimed at helping you improve. Moreover, I am committed to creating an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and respected. Diversity enriches our learning experience, and we must cultivate a space where everyone feels valued. In short, I am excited about the journey ahead and look forward to getting to know each of you better throughout the tutoring period. Together, we will navigate the complexities of Math and Physics while building skills that will serve you well beyond this tutoring session.

My approach as a tutor is centered on providing clear, concise, and well-structured knowledge sharing. My goal is to facilitate a deep understanding of various subjects by chunking complex concepts into manageable bits. To achieve this, I combine evidence-based teaching methods and a student-centered approach. My major teaching method is deeply founded on cognitive learning theory, which advocates the active processing of information by learners. I utilize a couple of techniques, namely:
• Active Learning: Encouraging students to engage actively with the material through interactive discussions, problem-solving, and hands-on activities.
• Spaced Repetition: Reviewing material at increasing intervals to optimize retention and recall.
• Chunking: Breaking down complex information into smaller, more manageable chunks to facilitate understanding and memory consolidation.
My typical lesson plan involves:
1. Needs Assessment: Identifying the student's current level of understanding and specific areas of need.
2. Goal Setting: Collaboratively setting clear, achievable objectives for the lesson.
3. Introduction and Context: Providing an overview of the topic and its relevance.
4. Direct Instruction: Presenting key concepts, vocabulary, and information through a combination of explanations, examples, and visual aids.
5. Guided Practice: Working through problems or tasks together to reinforce understanding.
6. Independent Practice: Assigning similar tasks or questions for the student to complete on their own.
7. Feedback and Reflection: Reviewing progress, providing feedback, and reflecting on what worked well and what could be improved.
Several factors set me apart:
• My approach is evidence-based methods that are current and grounded in refereed educational research and cognitive science.
• I tailor-make my approach to meet the unique needs and learning style of each student through differentiated instruction.
• I endeavor to make complex concepts accessible and engaging for students of all backgrounds and skill levels.
My lessons are designed for students across a range of academic levels and disciplines, including:
• Undergraduate and Graduate Students who are seeking support in specific subjects or working towards degree completion.
• High School Students, who are preparing for exams, need help with coursework or exploring interests.
• The professionals who are looking to update their skills or transition into a new field.
I cater to various fields of study, with a particular emphasis on STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
