About Shane
In my 8 years of tutoring Spanish and working with more than 150 students, I’ve come to understand that engagement is everything. When students connect with the language through topics they care about—whether it’s sports, music, social issues, or travel—they learn faster and retain more. I mostly tutor high school and college learners, many of whom are balancing heavy academic schedules and need lessons that are efficient but also enjoyable. My approach is simple: meet students where they are, and build from there. We start with the essentials—verb conjugations, sentence structure, and vocabulary—and then layer in practical conversation, listening activities, and cultural insights. I also love to include current events and authentic materials, like Spanish-language TikToks, news clips, or short stories, depending on your interests and goals. One student I worked with was preparing for a trip to Spain and wanted to be able to hold everyday conversations with locals. By tailoring our lessons to simulate real interactions—at cafés, on public transport, in shops—they went into that trip confident and came back excited to keep learning. Spanish doesn’t have to feel academic or abstract—it can be immediate, exciting, and personal. I’m here to help you find your rhythm and turn Spanish into a skill you truly enjoy.

Teaching Spanish effectively requires more than just sharing vocabulary and grammar; it requires creating an atmosphere where students feel encouraged to take risks and embrace the learning process fully. My teaching philosophy is grounded in compassion, integrity, and adaptability, which helps me build lasting relationships with my students and inspire meaningful progress. Compassion means that I recognize every student is unique—each has their own strengths, weaknesses, and motivations.
Whether a student feels shy about speaking or overwhelmed by verb conjugations, I approach every lesson with kindness and patience, offering positive reinforcement and a safe space to experiment. Integrity drives me to prioritize understanding over memorization, making sure students grasp the underlying logic and cultural context of the language. This ensures they can use Spanish confidently and creatively, not just mechanically. I break down complicated concepts step by step and encourage questions, so students feel empowered to explore language deeply. Adaptability is critical in responding to the diverse needs of learners—some benefit most from interactive conversations, while others thrive on structured grammar exercises or listening to authentic media like podcasts and songs.
I tailor my teaching style and materials to meet these preferences, always aligning lessons with the student’s goals, whether preparing for exams, travel, or professional communication. I also enrich lessons by integrating cultural insights and real-world scenarios that make Spanish practical and fun. By combining these core values, I help students build confidence, clarity, and curiosity, fostering a lifelong appreciation of Spanish as a vibrant, living language that opens doors to new experiences and connections.
