About Winnie
I’m a PhD student at the University of Cambridge and a university lecturer with experience teaching, marking, supervising, and supporting students with academic work across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
I know that academic writing can feel overwhelming, especially when you have lots of ideas but are unsure how to structure them, build a clear argument, interpret feedback, or turn a rough draft into something coherent and convincing.
My approach is supportive, practical, and focused on helping you understand how good academic writing works. I can help you improve structure, clarity, critical thinking, argument, flow, and use of evidence, while making sure the work remains genuinely your own.
I also understand that many students are not struggling because they “can’t write”, but because no one has clearly explained what markers are actually looking for.

We can work on things such as:
- planning and structuring essays, dissertations, and theses;
- developing a clear argument or research question;
- improving critical analysis rather than simply describing;
- organising literature and evidence effectively;
- understanding and responding to supervisor or marker feedback;
- improving clarity, academic tone, flow, and paragraph structure;
- strengthening introductions, discussions, and conclusions;
- preparing for dissertation or thesis meetings and presentations;
- breaking large pieces of work into manageable steps when you feel stuck.
I can also review sections of your writing with you and explain what is working, what is unclear, and how you can improve it yourself.
I do not write assignments for students. My role is to help you become a stronger, more confident academic writer and produce work you genuinely understand and can defend.
I am a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, a Visiting Lecturer, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and hold an MClinRes, MSc, PgCert, and BSc (Hons). I support undergraduate and postgraduate students, including international students and non-native English speakers.
