About Dr Sophie
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the daunting tasks of writing essays, preparing for exams, or completing research projects? I'm here to help!
I am an experienced academic coach providing personalised mentoring and support to social science students. Over the past six years I have helped students enhance their academic skills and achieve better outcomes. I have a BSc in Psychology from the University of Birmingham, a Masters and PhD in Criminology from the University of Cambridge, and postdoctoral research experience in Social Work from the University of Melbourne. As a result of this experience I understand first hand the unique needs and skills required for students in the social sciences, particularly psychology. Despite exploring other disciplines in my postgraduate studies, psychology remains my true love and the lens through which these interconnected disciplines are often examined.
I have experience working as an undergraduate supervisor, mentor, and outreach officer in the University of Cambridge. The training and qualifications I received during my time in these roles has equipped me with knowledge and pedagogical tools needed to effectively support and mentor students.
During my time working as an academic coach and tutor I have developed a particular interest in supporting students in higher education who face barriers such as mental health conditions and specific learning difficulties. I work with these students to manage challenges like anxiety, stress, concentration issues, and time management.
The world of study can be an incredibly lonely and intimidating place, something I have experienced firsthand. However, I firmly believe that everyone can thrive with the right support and guidance.

Please note that it is unlikely that I will be able to provide specific subject matter expertise for your particular project or area of study. My extensive background in social science research and academic mentoring, however, has allowed me to assist students effectively across a range of disciplines. In the past, I have supported students in fields including, but not limited to, criminology, psychology, education, nursing, economics, law, and creative writing.
