About Meiling
Hello, I’m Meiling. Welcome to my Chinese class.
I’m from China and hold a Master’s degree in Japanese Studies from Beijing Foreign Studies University. I also studied abroad at Waseda University in Japan. I teach in Chinese (native), Japanese (C2), and English (C1), and I am currently learning Korean and Spanish. Because of my multilingual background, I deeply understand the challenges and needs of language learners.
I have over seven years of teaching experience, with 700+ lessons completed on Preply and a 5.0 rating. My teaching style is gentle, patient, and encouraging. I focus on helping students build confidence and enjoy the learning process.
My Interests
Travel, photography, tea culture, flower arrangement, boxing, yoga, and reading psychology and sociology.

I have over six years of experience teaching Japanese and Chinese to a wide range of learners, including Japanese students, international school students, overseas Chinese children, and adult learners. Over the years, I have developed strong cross-cultural communication skills and learned to adapt my lessons flexibly based on each student’s background, goals, and learning style. I hold a Mandarin Proficiency Certificate (Level 2-A) and a High School Japanese Teaching Qualification, and I have passed JLPT N1 and IELTS 7. These language skills allow me to understand learners’ needs more accurately and explain Chinese concepts in ways that feel familiar and accessible to them.
In terms of curriculum expertise, I am familiar with the requirements of IB Chinese and have experience teaching MYP 4-5 as well as DP Chinese B and DP Chinese A. I understand the assessment criteria, text types, writing structures, and common challenges students face at different stages. One of my IB students achieved a 7 (full score) in the MYP Chinese exam, which further strengthened my understanding of how to help students improve reading comprehension, writing logic, oral expression, and exam strategies. I provide targeted practice based on each student’s level and help them develop effective learning methods.
For Japanese learners, I can explain Chinese grammar, expression differences, and key learning points in Japanese, which helps them understand more quickly and reduces frustration. Many Japanese students have told me that learning with Japanese explanations makes them feel more comfortable and confident.
For overseas Chinese children, I am currently studying Early Childhood Education (ECE) in New Zealand and am skilled at building trust with young learners. I design age-appropriate and engaging lessons, including pinyin foundations, basic reading, daily-life Chinese, and cultural stories, helping children maintain their Chinese in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
For adult learners, I offer conversation practice, pronunciation training, cultural communication, and personalized study plans to help them use Chinese more naturally in daily life or work.
