I've seen lots of ads boasting about fancy teaching techniques and teaching children the fundamentals. In my view, this is just garbage teaching jargon. I teach academic work the same way everyone was taught how to drive. Get in the car and drive. The idea is that you try questions, do your best, get it wrong sometimes and learn from it. This means when it's time to do the exam for real, you'll have more experience with exam questions and how to answer them.
Past papers/questions are fundamentally the best way to learn KS3, GCSE and A-level work. It's how I did it and it's the basis of my teaching technique. I will also construct question banks based on each student's syllabus. The best way to learn any academic material is to do practice questions- especially at GCSE level!! If the student gets a question right, we review it verbally and ensure they understand the tested material. If they get a question wrong, we discuss the correct answer, review study guides/teaching material and write a model answer for the incorrectly answered question together. It's simple and it works.
Target-setting is also important. We will discuss in our first session what grades a student wants to achieve and work towards that goal together.
Get in touch through superprof, we can have a conversation about your tutoring needs and go from there!
