I’m currently looking to apply for a PGCE masters at my university with the intentions of going into a teaching career. Hi, my name is Will. I’m 22 years old and currently a 3rd year History and Politics Student at the University of Sheffield who’s looking for GCSE/A level students to tutor. My aim will be to prepare students for what to expect in their exam and ensure they feel confident in applying their accumulated skills to achieve high grades in those exams.
Writing exam essays can be a difficult process to grasp within School. However by taking a deconstructive approach to essay writing, by examining the exam boards marking criteria I will ensure students have the awareness of what exactly the exam board wants students to achieve within their papers. Understanding this is imperative to students’ success. Additionally, I will work with students to fully express and explore critical writing techniques and practices to move away from descriptive writing styles that restrict students grade potential at a B. Critical writing is key to achieving high grades within History and once students understand how to achieve this, writing essays will become a much less daunting task! Developing critical writing techniques is something I have practised extensively in my undergraduate studies achieving consistent 1st level grades in my most recent year of university.
I studied AQA at A Level, specifically regarding the Tudors and Weimar/Nazi Germany achieving the grade of A in my exams. I have extensive knowledge in the rise and fall of the Soviet Union, Modern British History back to the Industrial Revolution, the American Civil Rights movement, Korean War and Vietnam War.
