Hi! I'm Ayesha, a third-year dental surgery student at the University of Birmingham. The most exciting aspect of my degree is the way it pushes your boundaries, making each step forward just that much sweeter. It is also a field where learning never stops, there are always new breakthroughs, which really inspired me to pursue this career path. This degree has given me additional experience with BMAT, UCAT and MMIs.
I took this tutoring opportunity due to my previous experience with tutoring (both being a student and a tutor) and how it highlighted the importance of additional support during studies. I feel as though it is vital for students to have a safe space where they can build the confidence to answer questions as well as ask them. It can be difficult to ask for help in a classroom setting, which is why I aim to encourage students to make mistakes now to avoid making them in an exam. Another aspect of teaching I like to focus on includes incorporating exam technique into content delivery, to build good habits among students and maximise marks in assessments; knowing content is important, but exam technique can be the difference between grades.
Some of my favourite revision techniques that helped me include: pomodoro, spaced repetition, exam papers and simplified summaries of topics that help you stem into detail. I appreciate how stressful exams can be and having additional support such as a tutor can ease you through the journey.
