About Georgia
I love teaching, only not quite as much as I love learning though. I find teaching so fulfilling, especially as someone who has never found learning or school easy.
A bit about me:
- Working with children check, national police check and RHAN
- Second Year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Adelaide
- Studied SACE stage 2 mathematical methods, Physics, English Literature, and Business
- Accelerated STEM class
- 5 years of teaching martial arts to 4-14-year-olds. My skills are highly transferable. I work with kids of this age twice a week, I understand their capabilities and attitudes to learning
- my teaching of martial arts has taught me great patience and given me experience with students who have to learn disabilities or mental disorders; anxiety, ADHD and dyslexia.

I was a high school student that found traditional classroom structures of learning really challenging. With my tutoring I aim to work with each student to find the method best suited for them, but NOT contradict the learning methods used at their school; to support it.
My general teaching outcomes:
- focus on learning the how and why; valuable in being able to replicate the mathematical processes and use skills in different scenarios successfully.
- develop personal learning plans for each student; making the time together and apart effective in achieving the student's goal.
- For written assessments, help students set up a writing plan and assist with editing.
- If the student struggles with organization and time management, or has a hard time getting started, ill help make plans and develop skills to do this independently.
- Acknowledge frustrations; learning is hard and that can get in the way of trying and being able to enjoy it. I aim to understand the student's frustrations to work with them to make learning a positive experience.
- focus on the specific student's goal; are you just trying to pass a class, learn something specific or achieve a high grade?
- I strongly believe in taking breaks; makes learning much more effective.

General lesson information:
** does change slightly depending on students' focus and concentration skills (I'm working alongside the student, not fitting them into my ideal).
- year 2-6, 1 hour
- year 6-8, 1 hour - 1.5 hours
- year 9-11, 1 hour -2 hours
the above times are great for learning content, if the student wishes to work on an assessment or study skills/planning, longer times are fine.
