About Peter

Having been forced to leave my previous club in late autumn 2021, because of their insistence on being double convid-jabbed, I was faced with a choice: find another club, or strike out on my own, and begin teaching. In mid-2022, I did just that (not on here), doing at least one private lesson per week. During my two years at my last club, I would occasionally run classes in my then instructor's absence, which I found immensely satisfying every time. It was then, that I knew this is what I wanted to do, not the dead end, unfulfilling job from which I have recently resigned. It began with friends, one after another, trusting this then-new, unproven teacher who was unsure of himself. Now, here I am. Doing more of this will also feed into another newly discovered passion of mine: video making. Moreover, to teach is to learn twice.

About the lesson

With me, you will learn function as well as form; the practical applications of kata (a set sequence of movements performed solo) in self-defence. Lasting one hour (or longer if requested), my lessons involve a mix of techniques performed solo, partner drills, and striking targets - focus pads and a kick shield - from as early as lesson one. I teach ages 16+, whether you're a complete beginner or have had previous training. The emphasis on the aforementioned training methods will vary depending on your stated training goal, be it for self-defence, exercise, the joy of learning a new skill, or whatever other reason.

Peter communicates well, and though he takes karate seriously, he still knows the right amount of humour to inject into his sessions. He also adapts well to his student's needs.
