About Jacob
I was born in Aberdeen, raised in music from an early age. I started with learning the drums from my father, which I performed from a young age in religious services/events. Later, I picked up the piano with my mother's assistance (as a private piano tutor), and found my deep love for music and its uses in the world. I realised soon enough that I wanted to have music as a career, and what's a better way to do that than to help other people who may be struggling on their own. I recently got accepted into the conservatoire, with my principal instrument as the piano, and drums second. Throughout my course, I am improving in my ability to teach all groups through specific training and techniques to give other people the love for music that I have gained myself.
I, like many other people, did not always have this deep appreciation of the arts. I was quite a bit of trouble in my early years at secondary school, and I never thought I'd end up where I am. I say this to prove that getting help with a subject that you don't care for might just lead you to fall in love with it. It's my hope that all my students will come in feeling unprepared, and will leave feeling like the SQA exams are just the start of their future in whatever they choose!

My lessons are structured around active, engaging learning that bridges musical practice with SQA exam success. For SQA National 5 and Higher preparation, I split sessions into targeted blocks: breaking down tricky listening concepts with real audio analysis, and providing direct feedback on practical performance pieces. As a tutor, my goal is to make high-level concepts clear, accessible, and structured so pupils feel confident heading into their exams.
Typical Lesson Length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, which provides the ideal window to cover exam theory, work through past-paper questions, and address individual composition or practical goals without fatigue.
Qualifications & Experience
I am currently studying for the BEd (Music) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), one of the top performing arts institutions in the world. Being on a dedicated education degree means I am actively trained in pedagogical techniques, secondary school teaching frameworks, and the Scottish curriculum. I bring a strong background in practical musicianship, piano performance, and music theory.
